Ideal Made Real: MN NICE features the work of Alumni and Affiliate Artists of the Minnesota New Institute of Ceramic Education (MN NICE). MN NICE is a certificate program providing personalized professional development for artists serious about taking the next step in their ceramic evolution. The exhibition celebrates MN NICE’s fifth anniversary and embodies the Claytopia theme of the 2019 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Conference held in Minneapolis.

About MN NICE: MN NICE (Minnesota New Institute for Ceramic Education) is a new educational model launched in 2014 as a collaboration between the Northern Clay Center and artist/educator Ursula Hargens. The program is designed to respond to the changing needs of emerging makers with high-level training in ceramic materials, history and theory, and professional practice. MN NICE extends beyond the classroom to include artist lectures, gallery tours, and studio visits to take advantage of the rich ceramic resources throughout the Twin Cities. The program strives to prepare students both artistically and professionally whether they are seeking gallery representation, applying for graduate school, or selling work to the public.
"Claytopia,” The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' (NCECA) 53rd annual conference will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota March 27-30, 2019. Since the 1960s, the Twin Cities region has played a pivotal role in shaping a renaissance in studio pottery and craft as cultural forces. Claytopia will engage regional, national and international artists, thinkers, curators, educators, and students to produce an array of exhibitions and experiences that build on, respond to, celebrate, and push against ceramic art’s diverse legacies.” – NCECA
